I Want to put a necklace in my carry on without opening it, can i do that?

I am on holiday right now and I am going to new york next sunday, I am planning on buying a tiffany's necklace for my mum. I don't want to take the necklace out of the box or packaging. If I put the bag in my carry on and rip up the recipt can I get away with it?
