How do I remove the outer short side axle shaft in a dodge dana 44 front axle 8 lug?

I have the tire off, the brake caliper off, now I'm lost. I tried taking the ball joints out but the axle shaft is in the way, and it won't slide out the end it gets caught on a seal of some sort. If need be, how does that seal come out?
